Abahani take solo lead beating Feni Soccer
Holders Dhaka Abahani Limited started their second phase campaign of the Grameenphone Bangladesh Premier League with a hard fought 3-2 goals victory over hosts Feni Soccer Club at the Bhasha Shaheed Salam Stadium in Feni Monday, reports UNB.
With the day's victory, Abahani Limited took a solo lead in the league table securing 20 points from 9 matches while national star-studded Sheikh Russell KC followed them neck and neck with 19 points from 8 matches, playing one match less than Abahani.
Feni Soccer Club remained at the bottom in the points table with Arambagh KS, securing three points each.
In the day's match, Nigerian striker Otofe Lucky Paul put Abahani ahead in the very 3rd minute of the match (1-0).
Ghanaian midfielder Twum Frank doubled the Abahani margin in the 47th minute (2-0) while Shakhawat Hossain Rony scored the third goal in the 51st minute (3-0).
After conceding three goals in a row, hosts Feni Soccer Club reorganized themselves and came back in the match as their fresh recruit Ariful Haque Saikat pulled the margin one back scoring one goal in the 63rd minute (3-1).
Another new recruit of Feni Soccer, Liberian striker Anthony Pole Doe made the match most exciting scoring the 2nd goal for home side in the 74th minute (3-2).
The day's other match between Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Team BJMC ended in a goal-less draw at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Monday.
